Should You Join Grove Collaborative?

Let me start by saying that I’m a little biased for two reasons. First, I LOVE cleaning. Always have, always will. There’s nothing better than a fresh, clean smelling house. Its basically a form of therapy for me. Second, it was a New Year’s goal of mine to be more eco-friendly. I wanted to recycle more, learn about what materials I was purchasing, and work to support brand with similar goals.

6 months into it, I think I’m doing pretty well. Especially with the help of Grove! To be completely upfront: Grove is a membership that costs around $20 annually. It works for me since I go through cleaning products so quickly, especially natural based products, since typically the shelf life is much shorter.

For me, this company is a win-win.

Grove sells products from brands like Mrs. Meyers and Method, which are well known eco-friendly brands. You can also get a lot of the brands they stock at stores like Target, but Grove does have a lot of sales and promotions on these items. You can also select your household items months in advance and not worry about them!

They manufacture a lot of their own products, like laundry soap concentrate, recycled trash bags, and dishwasher safe sponges! I love their reusable sandwich and snack bags, the laundry detergent bottle and concentrate, and so many other products.

Their bamboo tissues and paper towels have become a staple in our house. I try to use microfiber cloths for most of my cleaning, so I’ve actually saved money by purchasing the bamboo paper towels. They are 100% tree-free! Fun fact: bamboo can be harvested after only 3 months, where trees can take over 20 years. Bamboo also absorbs Carbon Dioxide at a significantly higher rate.

One thing that they’re really big on is selling glass bottles with concentrates. This helps reduce plastic use, extra shipping weight, and the products are natural and safe to use around your family and pets. Of course, they do have a lot of plastic options. If you do have a need for a product that comes in a plastic bottle, I’d recommend you to just be mindful and try to buy items that are recyclable in your area. It’s so important for us to educate ourselves on what is harmful for our environment and support brands and companies that have the same mindset.

On another note, with a Grove membership, shipping is always free and fast. They carbon offset all of their shipments, so you don’t have to feel terrible that you’re harming the environment. This may or may not matter to you, but either way, it’s a bonus!

Since I started using them several months ago, I haven’t ran out of anything! Of course, there has been a time or two that I’ve have an emergency and had to supplement with something from Target. This was just due to poor planning on my part. Still not a deal breaker for me.

Here are the details: the membership is a $20 annual fee. This includes one shipment a month and more often than not, free gifts! You can set up reoccurring shipments and not even worry about running out of your favorite products. You can plan them months in advance if you’d like, you can also skip months or cancel if you feel like it’s not a good match for you.
